This 3 day course will encompass two separate certifications, WEAPON RETENTION and DUTY KNIFE AS A BACKUP WEAPON. These two topics have overlap as a knife can be utilized effectively as a weapon retention tool. Participants must attend the first 2 days be be certified as an Instructor in TRICOM Weapon Retention, and must attend all 3 days to be additionally certified as an Instructor in TRICOM Duty Knife as a Backup Weapon. Participants may attend any single day for a Certificate of Attendance.
The TRICOM Weapon Retention course takes a practical approach to this topics. Focus is put on a variety of techniques, tactics and procedures that maximize the probabilities of an officer successfully defending their weapon under dire circumstances. We explore distances from arms-reach, clinch and ground positions, and both in-holster and in-hand retention.
TRICOM Duty Knife as a Backup Weapon explores the variety of utility functions a knife can play for a law enforcement officer, in addition to it’s use as a backup weapon to a firearm. This is our most sought after TRICOM module, and is taught annually at the NTOA Conference (National Tactical Officers Association Conference.)

WHAT IS TRICOM?
The TRICOM program (TRI-ANGLE COMBATIVES) is the result of 40 years of martial arts experience coupled with 20 years of experience teaching police and military Defensive Tactics and Combatives, and is based on the tactics of Kali (Filipino Martial Arts) and supplemented with various striking and grappling disciplines. The TRICOM modules have been taught to Special Operations and Instructors from police and military units across North and South America, West and East Europe, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Australasia and the Middle East.
The instructor for this course, Jared Wihongi, world-renown Close Quarters Combat Instructor. He is a 40 year student of multiple martial arts and combatives systems, and holds advanced ranks in the Filipino Martial Art called Pekiti-Tirsia Kali. He has 23 years of experience in law enforcement in the State of Utah (both full-time and Reserve), 20 of which have been working on SWAT Teams and as a Use-of-Force Instructor.
