This training is ideal for investigators who want to take their casework to the next level. We’ll cover everything from scene arrival through the screening process. If you work major crimes cases, or hope to one day, this class is for you! Attendees will learn how to properly manage crime scenes, how to evaluate evidence, and identify the solvability factors and scene indicators that drive cases. We’ll discuss new advances in DNA and digital forensics and how they can be used to solve cases. And we’ll use examples from real cases to show best practices, cutting edge ways to locate evidence, and achieve success at trial.

This course is also extremely valuable to patrol officers and police supervisors. Patrol officers will learn how to properly handle crime scenes in the initial response phase and how your decisions can affect the entire case. Supervisors will better understand how their detectives are working cases and what policies and procedures are required for a great investigation and solid personnel management.

The instructor for this course, Det. Chris Kotrodimos (Retired), has worked directly or indirectly on over 200 homicide investigations, in addition to more than a hundred major crimes. Chris has solved or assisted in several local high-profile cases in Utah and is currently an investigative consultant on a high-profile murder case receiving international attention. Chris is also an adjunct faculty member who has helped in the development of criminal investigations college curriculum. He volunteers as an advisor with the Utah Cold Case Coalition.
