Managing Confidential Informants

Informants can be utilized in almost any criminal investigation and by any police officer, not just detectives. This course will cover areas involving the use of informants in criminal investigations. Some of the areas to be covered will include how to recruit informants, the use of informants in criminal investigations, proper documentation, and department policy. The course will cover legal and ethical aspects of the use of informants by law enforcement officers. The students will learn investigative techniques to minimize the exposure or identification of informants. The course will also look at the civil liability of working informants and how to minimize those liabilities.
