The National Association of Field Training Officers, in conjunction with the Lehi Police Department, is proud to offer our Managing the FTO Unit Workshop, in Lehi, UT, a 35-minute drive from Salt Lake City International Airport or a 30 minute drive from Provo Airport. This training is designed for personnel supervising or facilitating Field Training Units in Patrol, Detention, Communications, and Support Services.

FTO Management

Field Training Officers train and evaluate career candidates in preparation for solo duty in law enforcement, corrections, and communications. The success of the FTO and the officer in training is critically linked to the proper management of the FTO program.

Our FTO management workshop is designed to assist agencies in developing and managing a successful FTO program. This class is not model specific and can be utilized at agencies using the San Jose, Reno, PTO, or any other model of Field Training. We will discuss program structure, duties of a field training manager, dealing with performance issues related to FTO’s, legal issues and evaluating written observation reports. We will also look into the future of field training with a discussion about the recommendations made by the Task Force for 21st Century Policing.

This 16 hour class covers such topics as Generational Leadership, Standardized Evaluations Guidelines, Ethics, Civil Liability, and field training models. Each block of study is directed at the Field Training Supervisor, and ways to improve teaching, work product, and approach to today’s Officer in Training. This collaborative workshop introduces principles which are immediately put into context through workshop exercises.

Seating limited to the 1st 40 applicants, no exceptions. This class will sell out and it will sell out quickly.
